My friend Kevin and I met online last June, when I had just separated from my husband. Kevin has kidney disease and Parkinson's. He doesn't get around well and he is unable to drive. His mom lives out of state and his sister never cared to pay much attention to him, although she lives in the same city. I drove to meet him in August to take him out of his lonely apartment and to the beach, where he hadn't been in years. He didn't live that far from it and no one cared to take him. We hit it off right away with no sexual relationship between us. We laid on the beach just like old friends and enjoyed the sun. Got crazy weird tan lines!
Since Kevin is disabled, he sits in his apartment with his dog and cat and chats online all day smoking cigarettes. He's just plain lonely. This past January he met a woman and her 14 year old daughter online from several states away. The mother worked nights so Kevin stayed up chatting with the girl. She made him believe it was ok for them to be together. I stressed over and over to him that nothing good will come out of this. He knew this was wrong and was scared. He used to have a wife and 2 stepsons that committed suicide. He wanted to be a father so badly, but it never happened. Anyway, the girl sent explicit photos of herself and Kevin got scared and placed them in a limewire account. Illegal!! He got scared and didn't delete them. One night the woman and daughter said they were in town and wanted to meet at a restaurant. Kevin went and ended up surrounded by cops. Turns out the girl that sent the pictures was a male cop. He was arrested and taken to jail for a few days and then sent to a detention center, where he still sits. Some charges were dropped except 1....placing explicit photos of a minor in a limewire. He is looking at 5 years and will be sentenced on July 29th and will be sent to federal prison. I have contacted some people per Kevin to let them know what happened. I spoke to his mother on the phone today, and I keep in touch with his sister, who is the one who informed me of what happened. I stand by this man because in his heart, he is not a child molestor. In my heart, I know that he never meant to do any harm. He was caught in a weak moment, and they got him.
I think about him every day hoping that he's ok. He's had to quit smoking and get minimal amount of meds, but surprisingly his health has greatly improved. He's in good spirits and we write often. After my divorce he bought me a beautiful sapphire/diamond ring. For my birthday he had his sister send me a sapphire/diamond necklace, which matches very well. He's so important to me, and we always seemed to be able to read each other's minds and finish each other's sentences. And we have only known each other a year. Our relationship doesn't go beyond friendship and I love that. I hope to see him before he is sentenced because he may be going to a prison in North Carolina where they have an adequate medical facility. I miss my friend.
